When a transaction costs dollars, only high-value actions belong on-chain. When it costs a fraction of a cent, the design space opens: micro-payments for content, in-game economies with real ownership, loyalty points that actually interoperate.

Fee compression on major Layer-2 networks over the past year has quietly crossed that threshold for many consumer use cases. The interesting question for product teams is no longer 'can we afford to put this on-chain' but 'what becomes possible now that we can'.

The caveat: low fees do not remove the need for good architecture. Data availability choices, bridge risk and sequencer assumptions still decide whether a product survives its first incident. Cheap transactions make more things possible — they do not make them safe by default.
